We are starting a new book in guided reading – The Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry. Answer these questions in as much detail as possible, explaining why as much as you can:

  • What were your first thoughts when you saw the front cover?
  • Did the front cover make you want to read the book? Why?
  • Are you looking forward to reading the book? Why?
  • What do you think will happen in this story?
  • What would you like to ask the author about this story?

What is 3 x 4?

Can you think of any other multiplication sums related to this one?

What about 30 x 4? Or 400 x 3?

Can you apply this to divisions sums as well?

Make a list of all of the multiplication or division sums that you can think of related to 3 x 4. As you are going, try to explain, using mathematical vocabulary, how you worked it out. Here is the division sign for you to use ÷

So you went to the Living Rainforest yesterday –

  • What did you see?
  • How did it feel on your skin?
  • What could you hear? Was it loud or quiet?
  • Were there any strange smells?
  • How did the rainforest make you feel?
  • What was your favourite part of the day?

You are going on an expedition to a real rainforest – you can pack just 20 items in the bag, and they must fit!

Today we are going to show that we know our times tables and can apply that knowledge to more complex calculations.

Use comments to answer the calculation and then explain how you have used your knowledge of times tables to solve it.

÷

Have a look at this and have a go!

I have investigated the pattern made by the digit in the ones place in the TWO times table and found this

2, 4, 6, 8, 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 0, 2, 4 ….. and so on

Explore other multiplication tables to find the patterns that are created in the ones place.

Comment on your findings!

This amazing, unique specie are one of the hardest to find. If you want to uncover these distinctive, wonderful creatures your closest hope of finding them would be in the Antarctica. They live in dens dug out in the snow where they are concealed in icy, soft snow. They stay here and then slither down a steep, snowy slope when they are going to hunt. Interestingly, they have only been found in these areas and have not been suspected any where else in a similare  place.  This is unusual because animals like it normally have more than one habitat area. If your facinated, then read on.

Author: Jeff Kinney
Genre: Fiction

This is a great book. The book is about his mum saying to explore his creative side and put down the controller. Halloween is coming and the frights are coming from every angle in Greg’s family. When he discovers the gummy worms he has a brilliant idea to use them for a scary movie. Read and discover what happens next in the story. My favaourite part was when he he had bad dreams because of the fritening books he read. I think it’s sutible for ages 6-12. I will give this book 10/10.
